Where Does All The Plastic Go?

Pages from my children’s book which aim to explore the role of plastic, and its afterlife with children. The illustrations are done as a collage and then scanned into illustrator for additional layering.

I wanted to create a narrative that explores factually and visually the result of excessive plastic waste. Where possible, the illustrations themselves come from post consumer waste, often found in the environment already polluting. This is a work in progress as I want to capture the several facets of this issue - over consumption, improper waste management and finally, waste colonialism. The message aims to factually address this issue, while addressing the different emotions surrounding it - anger, denial/fear and realism. The characters in this help faciliate this through there attitude with the sisters taking the role of anger, the father showing fear and denial and the mother focusing on the practical and true nature of this issue.
